St Patrick’s has a very active social justice program with a dual focus on awareness and action. The student leaders lead the student body in a variety of initiatives including the Lenten CARITAS Appeal (Project Compassion Contribution Boxes), St Vincent De Paul Appeals (Winter and Christmas) and Catholic Mission.
One of our major fundraisers is the sale of ice-blocks for Catholic Mission Term 1 to Term 4 inclusive.
Crazy Sock Day - Socktober out of uniform days to raise money for Catholic Mission.
Vinnies Winter Appeal - Supporting local St Vincent De Paul.
St Patrick’s Mission Day - Year 6 set up stalls to raise money for Catholic Mission, which is supported by a presentation from Richard Cootes from Catholic Mission. Staff also give gifts and donations to Catholic Mission or various other charity organisations. We also support worldwide initiatives in the wake of disasters such as Drought Relief and earthquake appeals.
Year 4 Mercy Works - raising funds for Mercy Works.
Blue Day - support of Project for Education Assistance in Vietnam (alternate years).
St Vinnies Christmas Appeal - Students and families are asked to support the local appeal through donating non-perishable goods, money or presents, which are then distributed to needy locals at the festive time.
The school encourages the students to propose other areas for social justice work at a local level. From year to year, this is in response to the needs of the local community. Our choir and music groups also visit local aged care facilities to sing carols, chat and spread some Christmas cheer.
As a Mercy school, we support Mercy Ethos and our Year 4 students participate in a fundraiser for Mercy Works followed by a Leadership Day.
