Student Leadership

St Patrick’s aims to provide opportunities to develop and cultivate leadership qualities within all students. We aim to instil in students a strong sense of social justice through the service of others.

School Leaders

Students from Year 6 are all eligible to become school leaders. Following nominations at the end of Year 5, students will present a speech to the school community. After approval and voting, the successful students are presented with their leader badges at the Opening School Mass in Term 1.

The leaders perform a number of ceremonial roles on special occasions and are responsible for setting a good example of being responsible, respectful and safe at all times.

They have responsibility for the care of sports equipment, school gardens, maintaining house enthusiasm in sporting activities, representing the school at community functions (ANZAC March, Wallsend Winter Fair and Diocesan events such as the Project Compassion launch and Catholic Schools Week launch), assisting at Athletics and Swimming carnivals, helping with the flags and waste and recycling duty, welcoming visitors, running assemblies and setting up for Masses and Liturgies.

The leaders see a major part of their role to be problem solvers and forward thinkers. The leaders run the Mission Day activities throughout the year and other social justice initiatives as they present.
